"Remoties"
About half of our employees work from home. They are lovingly referred to by the other half of the company as “remoties”. We believe that the remoties are key to our company’s success:
- Despite what Paul Graham claims, no one city has a monopoly on programming talent. If you want to hire the best people, you need to look everywhere.
- Creative work requires flow, and flow requires quiet and privacy. Many of our employees find that they are five times more productive at home.
- Office space costs $5000 per year per person. We would rather spend that on our employees than on some large multinational real estate conglomerate. (Yes, we're looking at you, TS.)
- Commuting, especially in big cities, is a colossal waste of time, energy, and carbon.
